Post this and that
hi all. i recently registered with expatinturkey.com, and i honestly have not laughed this much in weeks! you guys are great, and i've learned loads already. my name is amy, and i am a 26-year-old female from the usa (wisconsin...if there any of you other midwesterners out there). after spending two years in uzbekistan with the peace corps and two years in afghanistan working for a us company in management, i have landed in turkey. the unfortunate part of it all is that i am in antalya!!!! (i didn't know it was going to really be this bad). i am currently studying turkish at tömer language school, but i am escaping this massive amount of russians and coming to istanbul in the beginning of july. hope to meet you then.

Hello, ms. amy. I am a fellow Wisconsinite, in fact I am in the land of cheese and beer on vacation at the moment (Milwaukee to be precise) whereabouts are you from? Be sure to give a holler when you land in Istanbul - I've been here for 3 years and hopefully can lend some help. I'd love to hear your Uzbekistan/Afghanistan tales as well. Enjoy Antalya and try to stay cool!

Great and welcome Amy. We were desperately waiting for someone to bring peace to this forum. What's your urgent action plan?

i was wondering if anyone has experience with non-governmental organizations or other international development organizations while in istanbul? i am interested in finding a position in this area of work, and i have done the google searches....but it seems that many of them are operating out of ankara. can anyone give some feedback on this? thanx.

Hey there,

My best friend in the world grew up in Eau Claire and she keeps trying to convince me to leave Istanbul and come move in with her in LaCrosse...

What do you think, tempting offer?

Where are you staying these days? Up for a beer one evening next week in Kadikoy? Anyone else?

Welcome to Istanbul Amy! :) Nice meeting you the other night. Wish you the best with the job thing and other decisions.
I'd be up for meeting in Kadikoy sometime Teacherchick. Last night I just discovered my favourite bar in Turkey - The Last Stop - in Kadikoy. One of my dreams for Turkey has come true - wine coolers have arrived!!!! Check out http://www.r-drinqa.com (ready in October) Finally some palatable alcohol in Turkey!!!! I'm so happy!!!! So yeah, if you wanna do drinks in Kadkoy, I'd definitely enjoy meeting up at the Last Stop bar.
btw, if anyone ever finds the Smirnoff wine coolers like Smirnoff Ice in Turkey, I'd love to know, or any wine cooler for that matter. Gotta increase my favourite bar count.

Woohoo! The beginnings of a social life, however brief! :D

I start my TEFL course Monday in Kadikoy, let me see how late it'll run most nights and take it from there...

Anyone else in?
