 It was a new day yesterday...(a re-introduction)
I'm not exactly a new member (I think I first joined eiT about two years ago), but because I've been underground for so long, I thought I'd re-introduce myself.
I've been in Istanbul for about three years now - first came here with my girlfriend, Hande, in 2004. Started out teaching with Wall St., got married and became enişte in April 2006. Currently doing my Masters in Cultural Studies at Sabancı U. and teaching private lessons in my spare time. After living in Şişli and Üsküdar, Hande and have finally settled in Bakırköy.
After a long hiatus from social life, I'm finally finding some spare time again - so I'm hoping to meet some new people here. If anyone's interested in organizing some texas hold'em, finding a place to watch the World Series, or a jam session (I play electric violin and bass - jazz or old rock) - let me know.
Peace,
Ian

Welcome. Isn't the World Series involving the form of Rounders they play in the colonies. Not rich enough to afford to lose money at Texas Hold Em.

Just read that they have an all mens team of rounders now and they have a world cup.
Quote: In 2008, the Rounders World Cup will be held in Sheffield, England. The final will be played on Sunday 29 June 2008 at the Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield. The matches will be played to NRA Rules.
lives and learns I guess.
World series gets me though. How come the winner of the leauge each year becomes world champions when only one country (cant really count Canada) takes part?

Hey wait a minute Starman ! Whaddaya mean Canada doesn't really count
I may be way out on a limb but do you by any chance mean the World Series of Poker on channel e2 ?... I must have the beginning of an addiction if that's what came to mind first .... but I wouldn't want to gamble amongst friends here though because there would be hurt feelings if I kept winning *twitch*
Welcome by the way and I live pretty close by (K.Çekmece).

I do love the WS of Poker, but I meant the World Series of baseball (or "rounders"?) American football season is also upon us - any know of a place that shows games and has cheap beer? maybe just wishful thinking
Thanks for the welcome Flygirl. What do you do out in k.çekmece?

Geeky piece of trivia that World Series name comes from the defunct The World newspaper that started it. Only ever watched Baseball in insomniac periods on Channel 5 when essay writing in the early hours of the morning at uni, the game came across to me like cricket but a bit quicker.

We are lucky to get a game in once a month, I'll let you know when the next one is by PM. Hopefully you'll be up to 30 posts by then and you can PM me back. Otherwise get in touch by phone or email me: oztoturk@yahoo.com.au and I'll keep you in the loop.
