it's broken! see also my post in response to GBSahne's findings. the avatar upload functionality really has been broken since ExpatinTurkey.com moved to a new server in May this year. this is due to various directory restrictions our host imposes. even though the developers of the forum software claim that safe mode support is included, the reality learns that the avatar code is extremely fragile and contains errors. if we would have owned our own server and thus be able to control it, we would have been better able to cope with the problems that occur. meanwhile i try to provide a patch (thank God for open source software) while the bugs will be fixed 'professionally' by smart guys from phpbb FD

moral of the stor don't delete the current image, as you won't be able to replace it.... has anyone done this, I wonder?

 Avatar uploading works again!
a patch to allow for avatar uploading has been installed today! avatar uploading either from your machine or from a remote location (via a URL) is available again. because checks on size and dimension were no longer adhered to by our members, neither controlled by the forum software prior to this patch, some of you may find their avatar deleted by the system as both size and dimension restrictions are now in effect again. :?: don't know how to upload an avatar?
check the Avatars topic in the RULES, News and Announcements forum. thank you for your patience! FD

now banana, i know you have uploaded avatars before but just to be sure to be sure: :?: don't know how to upload an avatar?
check the Avatars topic in the RULES, News and Announcements forum. i just uploaded an avatar on one of the test member accounts and found no problem whatsoever. just remember that both size and dimension restrictions are in effect by the forum software. if after this you should still experience problems with uploading your avatar then please post here a more detailed description on actions taken by you, error message(s) and so on. i can't help on just a simple 'it doesn't work, help please' i am sure everyone will understand that! hhhmmm ok! just so we are on the same page: the forum software differentiates between size and dimension! size being filesize i.e. how many k / bytes your picture is and dimension as in width x height. filesize need be <= 10 k (10,240 bytes) and dimension need be 100 x 100 pixels or less sorry to state the obvious but please make sure both these criteria are met. now to the helpful part of my post could you just upload a few of the pics you have tried to your personal gallery? http://forum.expatinturkey.com/album_personal.php?user_id=298 - just hit the 'Upload' button - put in a value for the Pic Title - hit the browse button next to 'Upload a pic from your machine:' - select the image you have tried to upload as an avatar and - hit the 'Submit button from there i will be able to have a look at the pictures you've tried to upload for your avatar and perhaps will be able to tell if anything is wrong or not. thank you for your patience banana, but i like this to work as much as you do as i spend a great deal of my time coding the patch last saturday. it would be a shame if i made a mistake but then again to err is only human. as demonstrated by the fifth post in this topic Thanks, FD
