Post Cutting out quoting
Please avoid quoting the old post directly above your new post.
If you do quote it and find that you didn't need to, please click edit and remove the quote.
Also rather than quoting, you can simply say e.g. To Charly: and not quote me.

This makes the threads easier to read. Thanks!

PS If anyone quotes me now - there'll be trouble!

Children, children...

This was a serious post, so let me reinforce it. Excessive quoting is bad netiquette and does make the threads hard to follow at times.

If anyone would like to quote me here, I'll tell you now... don't bother.

Not bad seeing as I've just edited one of your posts for misuse of the quoting button.

OK as JohnF said - enough with the funny business.

We are adjusting the forum settings as we speak.

From now on, anyone who overquotes will be picked up by the software and receive a time out period of between 4 and 24hrs where they cannot access the forum. It is automatic and we do not intend to override it manually for anyone.

You have been warned.

Perhaps the "avoid excessive quoting, there is a secret hurdle and you won't find out where the boundaries are until you've run afoul of them" thing warrants a comment in the guidelines. Would this be an appropriate place to mention we discourage quoting run amok?....

http://forum.expatinturkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=446

Netiquette is a big world, and EiT's version of it is perfectly good, and god bless the moderators for running a tight ship, but I think practices that are common elsewhere are bannable offenses here. If we want quoting limited to a certain style, and will be at least temporarily locking out offenders, I think it warrants a mention in the new user guidelines.

To CdnRed:
our pleasure

delridge: Like most aspect's of EiT, we believe common sense to be the overriding factor in most of our administration efforts. If we start publishing guidelines, all that will happen is a few smart arses will then attempt to push to that point.

We would far rather everyone just accepted that the overuse of quotes is discouraged and got on with it. Use your common sense...

On the other hand, if someone either has no common sense or wishes to take the piss... they have a wee time out. Dead simple.

And thank you, we DO run a tight ship in the belief that the majority of members prefer it that way.
