10 YTL - Bargain, I love the monthly meet-up's and I think that it would be a 10 Lira well spent! Thanks to everyone who keeps this forum going.

Maybe, if it was 10YTL and then get first drink free, as most clubs do and as per the boat trip.

10 YTL is not bad at all for the improvements proposed. My 2 c: I've paid a lot more for a lot less. As well, I really do look forward to these gigs. Three quick suggestions: 1) Could the cover (or donation, as it were) apply to the attendee's party and maybe not their 1 guest? I fully realize that a guest is another mouth to feed, but sometimes you just wanna flow in like a pimp. Or rather, could the guest be on a donation basis? Just wondering. 2) Maybe post one of those handy little Paypal donation buttons on the EiT site, see what happens. I'm sure that has crossed the Admin's minds at some point, but that it might at least generate some loot to cover thier time involved in site upkeep and maintenence - as well as possibly offset some of the costs of the events. 3) Is there a chance that the venue will grant a percentage of the bar (however small) due to the fact that you packed their place with booze-hungry swine that carry lots of loose cash? OK, birdies and pars to all.

Just a quick respose here: Guests... nothing is written in stone as yet, this post was to let everyone know what we're thinking about, not an official declaration Thought about PayPal but would rather the forum stayed advert free and completely free to use. The monthly meet ups will cover the sites running cost if a charge is made. Yes, we could get a "commission" from bars. However, what we've done generally is to get the bar to give us reduced prices on the night on the basis that everyone gains then. JF

Thanks for all the time you put in and the awesome work you guys! Happy holidays to you too.
Does this also mean there will be a treasurer who will publish spending and transparency reports on a periodic basis? Seriously, 10YTL is cool. I will double my entry fee when I actually come in for the July meeting. And oh I have to buy Anne a shot of tequila...

No need to do that, 10YTL is quite enough! No, we don't intend to publish figures etc on a regular basis. We believe most members will see the improvements we intend to make and it will be fairly obvious where the money is going. OK, when it comes to the web site maybe the benefits there are a little bit more intangible. But I will give you a small example. Each month we regularly go over our allocated bandwidth, which in itself is fairly substantial. We then have to buy 1Gb chunks of bandwidth to ensure the site stays live. The most recent bill was for 58.75GBP, roughly 140YTL. Our hosting company is not cheap, but at the end of the day, you only get what you pay for. Anyone remember our unlimited bandwidth host Epidio from the early days? JF

Sorry JohnF. I said that in jest. I was facetiously playing the ugly American CPA. I'm neither ugly nor a native American. (ha ha) I'm sure 10YTL is well worth the camaraderie, revelry and more.
I second Dano's first point. What about guests for just the occasion? It would be great to have guest privileges and have either member or his/her guest to make an optional donation.
His third Q is customarily applied in some US venues. The planner brings in the crowd which results in the bar/food tab skyrocketing so...you scratch their back, they scratch yours. Perhaps its different in Turkey since I heard that some bars don't exactly pay thier staff weelky or monthly salaries. Rather they get a percentage of what the bar makes each night.

The bar owners I know tend to pay their staff a set weekly amount or on a nightly basis....but these guys get paid so little it's shocking.
As party organisers know, there are loads of ways to get in on the event financially...and lots of pitfalls. What EiT admins are proposing is a clean and easy way of getting a good deal for the site members plus revenue to maintain the site and keep it running. I imagine that costs such as man-hours will not be covered by the fee, purely tech costs and other overheads. Not a bad deal.

Definitely worth it! Went to the December get together for the first time and it was definitely worth 10 YTL!

To be frank, we don't really want to go down the road of looking for which bar/club is going to pay us the biggest kickback to host one of our parties. If we can have a few venues that will give us a decent discount against their regular prices we are happy (and so will everyone else we hope!). Quote: I imagine that costs such as man-hours will not be covered by the fee, purely tech costs and other overheads. Not a bad deal. It wouldn't even come close! We recently added up the man hours spent by Steve, Carlo and myself on a weekly basis and it was frightening. Net result was that we've decided we all need to go out and get lives JF
