RSS Feeds are quiet simple( but can be complicated sometimes). When you've got lots of sites to read in the web ( e.g. news, blogs, forums, etc..) and you don't want to open or go to each and every site, then you can consolidate them in an RSS reader. If the site supports RSS( Real Simple Syndication) and you have an RSS Reader ( you can download one or register online for one), you can view all the news, blogs, forums, etc .. that you registered(---> when you see those little RSS letters beside the forum index, that's a signal that you can subscribe to that particular topic or index). Once you were able to subscribe the feed, the reader will give you a daily updated and show you what is new in the site without typing the url. If you are a busy bee, it makes your life easier by being able to scan out information you may want to read without opening all the sites you usually visit. Some of the famous readers that you can check out are newsgator, bloglines, and feedreaders. There are still a lot out there. Just google it to find our more.

Well done suncatcher, not a bad explanation. Now, do you fancy telling this lot how to utilise the feeds, step by step?

Presumably that means that you have to subscribe to all the forum topics then, if you want to stay abreast of everything that's happening.

JF- Step by Step? Oh my! I'm not a techie! I'm just a user of RSS feeds I'm not good in explaining but normally it will work with a copy and paste command in your RSS feeder or better yet, if your feeder has an easy subscribe button, you just need to put on the link and it will do everything. GBSahne- yes. If you would like to know what's been happening to all the forum topics, you need to subscribe to all of them but you can choose as well, which forum you just want included.

GBSahne - That is correct! if you want to stay abreast of ALL forums you will have to 'subscribe' to all of them. Or alternatively at ExpatinTurkey.com you could opt to 'subscribe' to the RSS feed for all forums with a default setting for the first 15 items. the URI for this feed can be found at this logo on top of our index page. Go ahead and click on that little orange button, you know you want to! Once you have clicked the button a new page in your browser will load and you will find yourself presented with what looks like at first a lot of indechiperable text. Don't worry this is perfectly normal! This is the RSS output and is just a standard way to export the forum. Now close this window and go back to the topic titled ' RSS Content Syndicator' in the Our Site: Feedback & Questions forum. Forget about reading my first post (for advanced users) in that forum but go straight to my second post, start reading at where it says: 'The RSS logos will greatly help ...' and read the remainder of that post. This will reveal all there is to know about those "mysterious" orange logos on the Internet! There is nothing more to it, it's all in the name: Real Simple Syndication [RSS]. Additionally if you are a My Yahoo! user then you should read the ' My Yahoo! - RSS Feed' post in the same forum. To conclude: you will need a Feed Agregator aka News Feed Reader (software) to read the feeds. I'd suggest: Win32 - NewzCrawler or Win32 - Feed Reader. For Linux or Mac OS X users please see for links at the RSS Content Syndicator topic. There are some great websites out there, apart from ExpatinTurkey.com of course with RSS available. For example the BBC News website but as suncatcher said in her post you can just Google up some links and spend a few hours catching up on RSS, Newsreaders and websites with some great feeds. But you have to promise me that if you do find some great feeds that you will share them with the EIT members in our ' Around the web & Gifts' forum. Deal? FD
