 pm
If new users are not allowed to send or read pm's, then other users should not be able to send some until the receiver can have access to them. Makes no sense to know I have a message if I cannot read it. Probably will not be relevant by the time I do have access to it.
Wouldn't it be more efficient to do like other forum sites where you have a "block sender" function and/or "report spam" to admin? That way newbies would probably feel more welcomed, as opposed to a "watch out, he is a potential spammer!" approach.
That said, I'm not 19 anymore and I resent being treated like a highschool student because I asked how many posts I needed to read my pm. The response I got was a hell of a way to tell someone "welcome, we're glad you joined our gang". I thought everything about this site was cool until this pm incident happened.

Mavikaya you are taking this incident way too personally.
I doubt the administration set out to treat you like a highschool student, however this topic has been discussed already and the reason you didnt get a reply as to how many posts were required to attain PM priviledges was to avoid spammers.
If we were to publish that 50 posts (for example)were required in order to gain access to your PM's then some people would start posting nonsense i.e. spam just to reach 50 posts .
Furthermore the administration and technical staff who look after the running of this site are people who try their best to make out stay here fun but also do work in real life so do not have a chance to solve every problem all the time.
I agree that yes there may be some inefficiencies but this is the best they can do and since they actually pay money each month out of their pockets to keep this site running I dont think we should be complaining and instead be tolerant since we get to use this forum for free.

Mavikaya, the PM was from me. since it seems we have some problems with the PM access, I'll tell you what i was asking-- wanted to know where you work as I'm at IICS. maybe we're colleagues? Pollyanna (actually Jen)

Sorry, but i have to agree with Mavikaya. What sort of response was that???? ''Sorry your PM privileges have been suspended as a result of your actions.Have a nice day!!''
What actions?? Did i miss a post somewhere?? is that a standard message? if so, i think it should be changed. its not exactly ''welcoming'' is it?
And before you bang on about spammers etc.....i fully understand the reasoning behind said message.BUT...maybe it could be worded somewhat more tactfully??

Mavikaya thank you for letting us have your views on this matter. To answer your question whether it wouldnt be more efficient to have a block sender function and/or report spam we would like to point out that unfortunately our forum software does not provide us with said features.
We understand that you resent being treated like a high school student and we have never set out to do so, yet you resorted to spam this forum by posting multiple messages [deleted by administrator] asking how many posts are needed to read your pm. Even though the forum software informed you that any spam attempts will fail and if you try your account will be DISABLED. ExpatinTurkey.com thereby does not differentiate between forum posts and private messages.
Sorry to hear if you think this site uncool after this incident however we are a very forgiving bunch and your account had not been disabled off the bat. Your pm privileges will become available to you once you pass the post threshold.

By all the posts written at any given hour of the day by some people on here, you'd never know that they existed outside their computer. PS I am joking here, in case some of you (you as in you all, general, not you specifically Glitter) are ready to retort with a hot-tempered, serious response.
