Web rules Vs EiT
Have you ever considered shortening your name to GB?
I CARE. My posts are an important ethnographic contribution to the wonderful ideology that is the EiT forum. I'm sure JohnF would agree
As for CH, he's def 4reel. There's no way I could imagine being beaten at pool so many times.
this is the first time i saw rebels win! i am so glad that now we can follow your mails, you ethnographic contributor. and since i am not allowed to use caps lock (banned to use caps lock by the anonymous moderator who erased all my posts of joy of being able to spot a bug), i am gonna use emoticons to express how I feel.
Please dont overdo the smilies! SM

OK I can sniff a revolution! Beware young rebel! Posting in capitals is not allowed repeatedly and being cheeky to the invisible powers that be is considered naughty, but not nice!

It is considered shouting! GET ME! (All very interesting web etiquette stuff I suppose.)

Seems a wee bit unneccesary. Especially when one can be so much more fcuking agressive in lower case. One might even say that it is a limitation on the freedom of personal expression.
I think this one needs a bit more explaining for those of us who are not so experienced with web etiquette. Is this a general rule across all forums? Any other valid reasons?

But what about deaf people, to them this could be seen as discrimination..

Still seems a bit disproportionate to me: a case of the police enjoying the use of their truncheons too much.
If anyone can come up with a good reason (rational explanation as opposed to customary practice) why capital letters should be banned I would be interested to hear it.
A: EXPAT IN TURKEY IS A WONDERFUL FORUM - is unacceptable; whereas
B: Expat in Turkey are a load of fcuking w*nkers! - is not.
Hopefully, the CAPITALS rule of etiquette will be enforced in context and on a case by case basis. I seem to remember recently that ALSF had to write all posts in capitals because she was using a defunct keyboard!
Please split this as we have gone off topic and it would be interesting to hear what other people think...

If one rule/code does not seem perfect, should we therefore state that all rules are worthless!
Um. No.
The use of capitals is generally not polite because it is shouting. If I were to say
FCUK OFF or fcuk off - which would be deemed more offensive! (I hate swearing so please excuse me)

'Why say with 1 emoticon what you can just as expressively say with 73' that's what I always say!

OK in reply to what you asked:
Is caps such an irritation? Let's just say yes and keep to that rule.
Who is the no name mod? The mods are named, the Admins are not. Mods work for the Admins. The Admins run the site.
As for your cap case questions - I don't know what you edited.
Re. posting Admin messages on the forum - Did you speak to the Admin about it in private?

Hmm this is a glib reply which does not answer the point. The worth of rules is in their enforcement. It seems a little disproportionate in terms of enforcement of the rules to slap people on the wrists for one post in capital letters, especially when it is not agressive in tone.
I see the (still rather subtle) distinction between "FCUK OFF" or "fcuk off" but not between "this is the first time i saw rebels win! i am so glad that now we can follow your mails, you ethnographic contributor" and "THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I SAW REBELS WIN! I AM SO GLAD THAT NOW WE CAN FOLLOW YOU MAILS, YOU ETNHOGRAPHIC CONTRIBUTOR". However, if you can point out the essential difference which caused this to be clamped down on, then I will indeed be enlightened.

Basically the admins. (and yes us mods. too) allow things to pass until they get to the point where it anoys the fcuk out of one of us and then something get's done. See my argument some time ago with RSA and DAI regarding multiple quotes. Don't do anything excessively and your posts will not get edited.
ps. I found Dekolte's 73 smileys to be excessive and if I had mod. privaledges on this particular forum I would have deleted them.

you are free to free edit all my posts and change the wording and capitals and the emoticons if that is what you want. and you can also speak for me when you want to. my posts can be exact copies of yours. who cares about the character and the feelings conveyed anyway?
