Just wondering what people think of Russel Crowe's accent in American films.

Crowe does a pretty good American accent, in my opinion. I've never seen a film of his where his accent seemed non-authentic. His Jersey accent in Cinderella Man was commendable but overshone by Ms. Zellweger's.
I caught The Island on Digiturk last night and felt Ewan McGregor as a Yank was quite unsteady - particularily when he was shouting.

funny, i've heard cock-smoking is the method actor's training of choice for accent practice. loosens the vocal chords or some such

Wasn't it just? It was all over the shop.
And what a wank film. Logan's Run without the fun.
