yeah, i watched it last night.
it's a good movie but definatly NOT a movie you should watch for "fun"
as in "hey, let's call some friends to go watch a movie and then have some drinks with"

this is more like "i want to leave the cinema in shock and awe but after that fall a sleep crying."

it ruined our night last night.

Hey Charly,
Have you got a copy of Harold and Maude? I haven't seen that since I was a young whipper snapper, knee high to a grasshopper.

Similar to the comment made by the eponymous heroine of "Jackie Brown" about LP's, I just cannot afford to re-start my collection with DVD's. I brought back with me more than a thousand videos from England and unless they offer something truly extra like the region 1 releases of Citizen Kane or Dark City do, for example, I don't buy the DVD releases. Obviously, mind you, all the films I have been buying since 2002 or so are on DVD.

Today's Groundhog Day. Guess that's this evening's viewing planned, then. Remember, people, watch out for that first step, it's a doozy.

A truly great film; definitely in my top ten films of the nineties.

Err, that is all. Bye.

A Hilarious "soccer" hooligan movie starring that hobbit geezer Frodo battling with his appy hammer mates against rival "firms" like Millwall.

I could not believe how awful this movie is and cant believe I bought the DVD at Heathrow on the way to Istanbul .

Heres hoping my second purchase , The Jody Marsh fitness DVD provides better entertainment.

Cinema Paradiso is good though , I brought that aswell for when Im feeling homesick.

It's amazing how crucial post production and editing is to a film's success. I love Cinema Paradiso but I made the mistake of buying the director's cut of the flick which is a whopping half an hour longer and it has Salvatore meeting up with his old flame in a car and, how can I put this delicately, fcuking. I physically felt her discomfort.

For a great book on the subject of post-production, I'd recommend (because, let's face it, everyone reading this is just dying for me to share with them that holy grail of post-production literature) "When the Shooting Stops" about Annie Hall. Did you know that there was a huge murder sub-plot which they thankkfully discarded?

I saw "Layer Cake" for the first time a week or so ago and even though it was a very enjoyable flick, I hated the ending. It felt arbitrary; it felt tacked on. It just did not earn it; if they did not want to go with a traditional happy ending, then one of the more ambigous options (available in the extras) would have been more appropriate.

And "Sky High" kicks ass. Best "spoof" since "Galaxy Quest" (which, incidentally, is the best Star Trek film after "The Wrath of Khan").

Loving your expositions on movies- Ali. Partly, because some of them pithily express exactly what I feel about the film (e.g. Groundhog day) and partly because they give me the opportunity to disagree with you. :D

Hmm Sky High. Saw it on good old BA back to London. For pure light-hearted entertainment I liked it quite a lot, but the plot was bluntly nicked from Harry Potter and adapted to a Superhero scenario (e.g. the superhero game), and full of cheesy predictabilities (e.g. oh look he has two superpowers, at the end). The best bit was the beginning when our quarterback/hero had no superpowers at all. 6-10.

Its a movie from a different perspective. I liked it. I don't care much about fanatics. But the story of this bunch peaked my interest. It came in at a great time I was tired of watching choregraphed kung fu horse dung.

Also Jonathan Demme version of Manchurian Candidate was defitinely a good flick. Its a holywood big budgeter without the holywood patented climactic moments. It was outside of the box. Which is more than enough to win me to Mr. Demmes side.

King Kong- Loved the 1930s version, loved this one; "No it wasnt the airplanes, it was beauty that killed the beast"
Full Metal Jacket- "Pvt. Joker, Hell I like you, you can come to my house and F*** my sister"
Casablanca - Watched 20+ times and it is great each time. "Of all the jin joints, in all the towns, in all the worlds, she has to walk into mine"
Equilibrium - A cross between Farhenheit 451 and the Matrix, Christian Bale is a badass
The Killing Fields - After my trip to Cambodia last month and seeing killing fields and S-21 prison made the movie much more powerful and Upsetting
Team America - America F*ck YEAH!!
The Shining - "Redrum redrum"
Secret Window Secret Garden - Kinda of predicatable "As he helped himself to another ear of corn from his garden, her death would soon be a mystery even to him"
