Gilly, and Sunflower

Is it the American's huge interest in those Royals that created all the hype about The Queen? There was nothing in ithe movie that one didn't know or couldn't reasonably guess. The best part was how they got the actors to look like them as if one was just slightly drunk.

Yes the Americans do have a fascination for the royals, ironic for a republic eh?

Only Helen Mirren looked vaguely like the Queen, as you say, if slightly drunk.

The actors that played Charles and Philip were not similar even if completely pissed.

The Blairs resembled there tabloid caricatures though.

Other than the death of Diana, which was covered in the U.S., I have never been privy to a single American making a single comment about anyone in the British royal family. Is this a statistical statement about the entire U.S.? Of course not. However, anyone can observe that the infrequency of which they appear in the U.S. media doesn't even suggest a mild interest, much less a fascination with them.

Never mind, it was worth seeing just for Helen Mirren's great display.[/quote]

Yes Gilly I do agree.

I wonder why this film was made, very weird ........

Proof (2005) - Gwyneth Paltro, Anthony Hopkins, Jake Gyllenhaal
A movie about mathematicians, genius, control and whether you are crazy. Felt uncomfortable all the way though. Liked it.

Following (1998) - Christopher Nolan (director)
Good twisted movie with some great surprises. Black and white.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154506/

Stay (2005) - Ewan McGregor
One of those movies where you are not quite sure what is going on, what is real and what is not. Some great cinematography.

No statistics Burbaco, just a perception that we British have. Probably, but not solely, based on the fact that there have been documentaries made specifically for the US audience, last one being the one Edwards production comapny got slapped for by prying into Prince William's university life.

Hope we haven't caused offense with our observations...

So not to go-off topic on this thread, maybe that would make a good discussion?

'Do the Yanks have an interest of, or are curious about the Royal family'

Rented 3 films at the weekend, watched 2 - both of which were absolutely superb!

A Good Year. Russel Crowe as Max the Stockbroker with a past in Provence.

The Illusionist. At last I saw this, and was worth the wait. Best film I've seen in a very long time!

The other film I rented was Little Miss Sunshine, hoping it's 3 out 3. :D

The rental ones are better quality. Plus I generally only watch a movie once. If I do watch it more than once, it's usually back to back! Yes strange, I know.

ones I have gotten have been crystal. Although I mainly buy whole seasons of certain TV programmes now. For example the whole 1st season of Galatica cost me only a pony.

Galatica looks quality. Saw one episode for the first time last week and wanted to watch next episode - guess I missed it.

I fcuking hate the new Galactica. It takes itself so seriously, and, besides, I find myself in complete agreement with Adama et al. I've just read the spoilers for the third season finale; sounds interesting (who is not a fcuking Cylon on that ship anyway?), but the whole thing is akin to eating carob: lots of work for a miniscule amount of pleasure.

Post Lives of Others
Saw "Lives of Others" last weekend - it's a great film! "Zodiac" was fairly good, as well.

Little Miss Sunshine - a bit perv if you ask me.

The Departed - what was all the hype about? Very thin I thought.
