I saw a really good old movie last week, "The Slender Thread".
Slender Thread, The (1965)
This first film directed by Sydney Pollack is a realistic suicide hotline drama inspired by a Shana Alexander article for which Stirling Silliphant wrote a screenplay. It earned Academy Award nominations for its B&W Art Direction-Set Decoration and Costume Design. Sidney Poitier plays Alan Newell, a student that works at the new suicide prevention center for Dr. Joe Coburn, played by Telly Savalas. The story begins when Alan receives a call from Inga Dyson (Anne Bancroft), who's just taken enough pills to kill herself within an hour and a half (e.g. the film's length). Therefore, Alan's challenge is to keep her on the phone (line - the slender thread) to try to convince her to stay alive and tell him where she is; absent that, it's a race against time to trace the line and find her before she succumbs to the overdose.

88 minutes
The movie starts with a serial killer who was convicted based on his testimony is about to executed. But there is new evidence suggests the collage professor who also works for FBI Jack Gramm convict the wrong man. Then receives a death threat that he has only 88 minutes to live and you start to suspect Every single person in the film.Has an interesting final. Its worth to watch a movie that reminds the serie 24.

 dvd watching
Saw "Pan's Labyrinth" this weekend. The storyline itself is plausible and the thread rhas been epeated over and over again in cinema in general but Guillermo del Toro's execution/direction elevated it to another level. I ended up averting my eyes in a couple of scenes. Such graphic display of brutality is overkill in my opinion. The 'creatures' were excellent from an artistic'animation standpoint.

Comedic satire. Interesting. As opposed to sombre satire.

Some satire is merely sarcastic without being comedic...like your post

old film, but if you have'nt seen it yet, do!
I won't spoil it with over-enthusiastic critique.
