The Shining - on ActionMax (Digiturk ch. 15). Still scares the pants off of me after all these years. Jack is (as ever) excellent and noticed this evening that my sister-in-law bares a striking resemblance to Shelley Duval.

Post kaldırım sercesi- edith piaf life
Olivier Dahan film about Edith Piaf life
great- very emotional- even if you dont understand french or don t read turkish, go- İt made my week end and I will think to it during a long time- fantastic actors (Marion Cotillard is more than perfect and deserve oscar, but the others -all french I think- actors, especially emmanuelle seigner who plays a prostitute, Pascal Gregory, Clotilde Courau -the terrible mother- are all fantastic- E.piaf had a incredible destiny, and even if sometimes you are a little lost with all the flash backs, you understand at the end it was necessary-
İn summary, a very good surprise for me (I didn t have a lot of expectations and knew the story) and a lot of emotion- At the end, you just want to buy Edith Piaf CD !

I've just seen the film about Edith Piaf.Agree Marion Cotillard deserves the oscar.
The song NON,JE NE REGRETTE RIEN is the summary of the film and her life.

"Fur" - what was that about? Well I know what it is supposed to be about but this movie with Nicole Kidman seemed totally unrealistic but boringly normal. Not deviant at all - unlike the director (Steven Shainberg) and screenwriter's (Erin Cressida Wilson) other movie Secretary...

Easy there, Doris Lessing.

But you are right about the film, yes.

...and how about Alpha Dog and Normal Adolescent Behaviour? Sex and violence in the life of teenage America. Tricky to watch if you can't get over the extremism of it all. Sure there's a message and you should suspend your disbelief now and then but most of the time I ended up thinking- "What the F?" and "That didn't happen at my school".

My Neighbor Totoro. A delightful Japanese animation suitable for all ages which should, of course, be called My Neighbour Totoro. In fact, the only thing marring the experience was the US dubbing. This made "To-To-Ro" become "Tadera" and "Sat-Su-Ki" become "Satski", as if she were Russian. Still, much fun. I want to ride a Catbus.

Things have changed somewhat since we were at school darling  My 9 year old neice knows more about Britney Spears' custody battle / drug habit(s) and Amy Winehouse's latest shennanegins than I do.

Perezhilton.com will fill you in with any gossip you need to know. Has great explanations on our British terms such as "getting wasted" "going on a bender" etc....... "Unfitney" has a parallel Trainwreck in Kerry Katonia it seems......

My daughter also wants to ride in the catbus, that is after she's made all the trees grow in the same manner.

It crosses my mind that there has been some good (if not brilliant) movies on our screens recently:

*Stardust- I thought was enjoyable to watch with some witty dialogue and a nice turn by De Niro, Pfeiffer and the effervescent Claire Danes.

*Atonement- did not hold together but contained some beautiful cinematographic moments: such as Keira Knightley diving into a fountain; the letter writing scene; and a wonderful tracking shot of a Dunkirk beach.

*ElizabethII- I enjoyed but for its set pieces and visual beauty rather than its historical accuracy.

*Ali Arkian tells me that Michael Clayton is a good movie.

What are people's views on these movies or any other movies that they have seen recently.
