Walked out of Stardust - crap - probably because the two leads were about as interesting as ...Ulus...

Been watching the aliens movies this weekend (as BF's research not through choice) - the first movie when the alien ripped it's way out of the guy's body and sped across the floor like a sperm on speed was more funny than I remembered.

Just like childbirth innit

I think that the blandness of the lead characters in Stardust was deliberate. Starcrossed lovers are always boring, rather like the recent Neyo and Rhianna duet (I hate how much I love you- meaningless contradiction in terms anyone?).

Is he my Armenian twin?

There is a chance I might get two tickets for a press showing of The Golden Compass. If it happens, I am taking you along with me, JC.

I love you, your Armenian twin, and your onanistic Polish triplet, Ali Unikan.

The Host. Four stars (from five) for making archery cool and confirming my suspicions that Koreans and Turks are very alike.

MICHAEL CLAYTON: powerful, plot-driven and some lovely moments from Clooney (in particular the end scene). But unfortunately does not hold together so like many of this year's best movies so gets 4 stars from me.

Interesting to see Soderberg and Minghella (the merciless) as executive producers. Clayton is stylistically comparible to Ming's excellent breaking and entering: they are both realistically-shot present-day morality tales (which to me echo Mike Leigh and Ingmar Bergman). So I am hopeful of similar things to come.

Re: Michael Clayton - The excellent casting elevates the story. Take away Clooney, Swinton, Pollack and Wilkinson, and you are left with a pretty bland flick. Much better than the sum of its parts.

Next up from Minghella and Soderberg: Michael Flatley

The Golden Compass: the movie has a slow pace, which made it relaxing to watch. It's a no brainer, just sit back and relax. But the end was CRAP. That is, if I ever get to see the end. I think they ran out of money or they neglected to tell me I will need to see part 2 and 3 etc. to get the whole story. It reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (old style Batman ending: to be continued, same channel, same place, same time). And even if you make a movie in parts, at least give me a satisfying ending after every part, which is inviting to continue to watch the next part. If I watch part two, I will watch it on a bootleg dvd (that will show them!).

There won't be a part two since the film had a dismal opening weekend in the US. Also, they cut out the actual ending, which is uncharacteristically bleak for not only a Hollywood event picture, but a children's book, too. They shot it, however, and were supposed to begin the next film with it. Since there won't be a next film, it will most probably be an extra on the DVD's.
Asriel is actually a bit of a ****. At the end of the book, he manages to cut Roger from his daemon, thereby unleashing a huge burst of energy, which opens a bridge to the city in the Aurora. Lyra and Pan follow him. The End.
GOLDEN COMPASS: what a filmic waste of a great book.

CLAYTON: agree 100% about the casting point. You are not really given enough time with the characters of Swinton, Pollack and Wilkinson for my liking though.

We could definitely pich the MICAHEL FLATLEY flim to Ming and Soda though: an Irish dance wizard (played by Colin Farrell) goes off the rails when his show Riverdance hits the corporate big time. His relationship with loyal wife (Reese Witherspoon) also falls apart due to the attentions of fellow dancer (Carmen Electra) and his sexual performance dipping due to him having to wear tight leather trousers on a daily basis. A harrowing tale of the relationship between the corporate world and the male mid-life crisis. Score by Coldplay.

Recently saw the Bourne Ultimatum on a flight back from Hong Kong. Definitely not as good as the first, but Matt Damon continues to do good work,a nd the action sequences really were great. Joan Allen has one of the really good roles given to over-45 women in Hollywood.

Fell asleep to Junebug last night...........
Had to shout at Madeline first though to stop touching the brother - it was too much - no wonder he got the wrong idea.
