My Blueberry Nights.

In the mood for love? Like Wong Kar Wai? Want to laugh at Jude Law's Mancunian accent? Want to enjoy some nice run outs from the delectable Rachel Weiss and Nathalie Portman (and introducing Norah Jones)? Want to bask in a jazzy soundtrack and some lovely cinematography? Go and watch it.

Another 4/5.

The Devil Wears Prada

What a pathetic excuse for a "movie."

I saw "Joyeux Noel" last night. A film based on the Christmas truce of 1915. There was audible crying in the cinema. I shed a tear as well. A very powerful film (until about half way when it loses the plot somewhat) but if you can get a copy go for it. An excellent condemnation of war in particular and to some extent the church. The film is in French, English and German and I saw it with Turkish subtitles.

Beautiful film. Everything's happening, and nothings's happening, at the same time.

Day 0 (oops sorry wrong thread).

Have you seen WKW's in the mood for love, Uta? If not, I would definitely recommend it as there is more of everything and nothing happening (all in a beautifully lush cinematographic stasis) this time in a south east asian context.

Black Snake Moan: very disturbing movie for a ton of different reasons. Justin Timberlake has a fine, convincing performance, Samuel L. Jackson and Christine Ricci are fantastic as would be expected. 4 and a half stars out of five.

No Country for Old Men: really chilling movie. Javier Bardem's character is still giving me nightmares. 5 stars.

I agree, an excellent film, if you dislike happy endings, you'll love this, though it will definitely give you the blues...

I have, and agree, and think it might somehow be easier to set up a everything and nothing story in Asia in the 1960s than in today's USA.
But maybe not, I'm not sure.

"He remembers those vanished years. As though looking throusth a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct."

I think they've made this already. Isn't it called Hiroshima Mon Amour?

Charlie Wilson's War- a really good film. Fantastic stuff from Hanks and Seymour Hoffman and great sharp, witty dialogue (without the melodrama) from Sorkin. As an aside, this is the sort of film that will give Arikan wet dreams for months.
8 1/2.

Juno

Another good quirky leftfield US movie which is very well-written and has the best use of the line "Thundercats are go" that I can think of. 8/10

It's intentional - she says "Thundecats are go!" in the film.
