yep, fantastic. A dry as a bone, plot driven, amoral (i.e. leaves you to make you own mind up), no frills, engrossing story, and the best filmic depiction of the futility of palestinian/israel cycle of voilence I have seen.
Only issue: the sex scenes.
Spielberg has made his homage to Jewish 20th century history with this and schindlers list. He is also one of the greatest (and most eclectic filmmakers of his generation) as is illustrated by the two films above plus Duel/Jaws; ET/Goonies; Indiana Jones; the Colour purple; (and I think the excellent) Minority Report.

I like his attempts to air all sides of the issues.

Eh? Not enough? I only recall two. Didnt think it was particularly gratuitous!!
Thought the 'film climax' sex scene was particularly poignant exploring the balance between (new) life and death. But that was just my take!!

Agreed, DAI.
Monkey, you old French symbolist you. Symbolic power noted (not just new life and death, but also the disposability of sex and murder) and was sad that our hero even during moments of intimacy is haunted by images of a cycle of violence that he cannot mentally break out of (which symbolises the terrible but understandable realities of the Palestine/Israeli conflict).
My problem was the acting. Perhaps it is just me, but when have you ever pulled an expression like that whilst making lurve?
Loved, the ending (and comment about breaking bread) by the way.

Frankly I prefer my movies to move me to go into my list of movies that must be seen. I need to have goose bumps when the climactic seens occur.
There is only a couple of movies that are an exception to this that has entered my must see list.

First rule of symbolism: If you ask yourself what a particular scene symbolises, it doesn't symbolise anything.
Whereas the first sex scene was obviously "making love", the other one was out and out animalistic copulation. The dichotomy was relatively hard to grasp, though; I see JC's point.
Did you all notice that subtle way the words "nine" and "eleven" faded ever so later than the rest of the paragraph and the way they were ingeniously placed on either side of the two towers? Brilliant stuff.

Great film. Impressively strong, not needing all these speciall effects other films seem to need to make it interesting. Interesting for all the (hobby-) linguists amongst us.
The piuctures indicating you were outside the Olympic stadium in Munich interestingly resembled of the 1936 Berlin stadium (Albert Speer type Architecture) not the 72 Munich stadium, which is the icon of non formal (stadium-) architecture in the world.
Sex Scene no. II was so overloaded with symbolism, it lacked subtlety (I am not sure how you spell this).
So, definetly worth going. However, DAI was right, shoe box room, small screne, expensive. So Cineasts avoid Akmerkez cinemas.
