is changing the manager really going to make any difference for you guys? You have a pretty good group of players (although they are over-hyped by the media) and for some reason they do not seem to give a toss about playing for England. The fans and the press turn on the team really quick and the booing?? Seems to me its about more than just the manager - saying that though him standing there with his golf brolly - what an ass - dont think Ferguson, Shankly, Mourinho is going to be seen dead doing that.

The players are just as much to blame as the mediocre manager (who should never have been appointed in the first place). I think Joey Barton had it dead right when he said of them 'I went to the world cup and played shit, here's my book.' It just shows how each of these pricks think they have some divine right to be worshipped regardless of how well they do/don't play. Call it the Fat Frank or $tevie syndrome if you like.
The very fact that McClown now refuses to resign because if he does he waives his £2.5 payoff just shows how little class these people have. It's all about the money.

Shame on the manager, shame on the majority of the English players, shame on the owners of Wembly Stadium.
Our national pride has not been so pierced for a long time.
I can only come up with 2 positives:
(i) I am not in England right now;
(ii) At least Turkey got through (tebrikkler by the way) so I have a team to support in the European Championships.
We can't afford it, but actually I would love to see "the Special one" as the next England manager. At least he knows how to organise a team.

Simon, I agree about McClowns payoff - £2.50 is far too much let alone £2.5m. Could someone please take the brolly from the wally and ram it up his arse!
I mean for fcuks sake I think our guys who play on a Saturday whilst hungover put in more effort than most of the England players last night. Only person who seemed to care was Crouch and then Beckham when he came on. When will managers learn never to put a Villa player in a key position - Carson Last night, Southgate/Vassell penalty etc.
...from a Villa fans perspective bollocks, we're about to lose O'Neil but hes only just started to put a good team together.

Regarding the "special one", our Mr Fabio Capello is waiting for the call.. Yesterday night, interviewed, he implied it very clearly. Don't know if he could be the "special one" or if just a "special one" is needed, but for sure he can bring more discipline and help to have finally a team spirit.

as a side note, on Top gear last night they had a rugby player on to do the reassonbably priced car around the track and he described the premier league as the "Andrex league", because its soft and unexplainably overpriced

Two good things about this for the "Engländer":
- there will be no penalty shoot out with Germany
- England is not going to loose a single match in the next European Cup
But may be we can help and send Klinsi to get your team ready for the next world cup?

of course Scotland and England getting knocked out gives me a dilemma about who to support - I guess Turkey will do.
I would quickly point out that England qualifying would of course not have meant me supporting them, just every team that played them
I, like Jonathan was looking forward to the penalty shoot loss again.

 ..and McClaren is sacked
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 100393.stm
lets see who the next unlucky mug is: (may I suggest Berti Vogts)
William Hills is giving the following:
Martin O' Neill 5/2
Jose Mourinho 3/1
Fabio Capello 9/1
Luis Scolari 10/1
Harry Redknapp 12/1
Gus Hiddink 12/1
Alan Shearer 12/1
Stuart Pearce 16/1
Jurgen Klinsmann 16/1
Martin Jol 20/1
Steve Coppell 20/1
Sam Allardyce 20/1
Marcello Lippi 20/1
Alan Curbishley 20/1
Paul Jewell 33/1
Arsene Wenger 33/1
Steve Bruce 40/1
Interestingly Steve Bruce has an issue with Wigan
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story ... 96&cc=5739
could he be holding off for the England job?

I thought McClaren's impersonation Sven (ie show no emotion) rubbed off on the players and I agree with English Mike that only Crouch and Beckham showed any determination.
Compare McClaren's situation to that of the Croatian coach. One had his whole career on the line and just stood there with the brolly for most of the match. The other bloke didn't have a care in the world, Croatia having already qualified, but he was on the sidelines shouting and revving his players on. Hopeless.
As for Turkey qualifying that is annoying as well as it means Fatih Terim will continue to be a pain in the arse for another six months.

Oz, totally agree with you on Terim.
My cabbie this morning was shocked to learn of England's exit. "I can't understand it," he said. "Especially after you paid the Russians and Israellis to give you the result you needed."
No tip.

A letter penned to the Guardian:
"Even the Sheliaroos could get past Croatia in the World Cup - and we gave them three of our players. Never mind. You did finish above Andorra" - Terry Maher.
