(i) Go go Johnny go...

(ii) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 229296.stm

(iii) My predictions:
1. Liverpool (can't believe I am saying this. make or break season boys, but a lot of quality summer transfers)
2. Man U (will be consistent and occasionally exciting with Ron- and Roon- aldo)
3. Chelski (will miss Terry at the start and Malouda will not add anything. Never underestimate the special one though)
4. Arse (young and exciting, but devoid of leadership. fabregas and van persie have to become world class too quickly)
5. Newcastle (the amount of players these boys buy they have got to get it right one season)
6. Spurs (paid way too much for Darren Bent, but have a very strong squad. Respect for buying "Kevin-Prince Boateng")
7. Everton (super Leighton Baines? Everton will be difficult to break down but Andrew Johnson cannot do it alone)
8. Man City (dodgy Thai owner, and make or break time for SGE, but now a large amount of European quality players)
9. West Ham (Bellamy will be a threat with his pace; Freddie will provide some energy and class in midfield)
10. Villa (have not bought as many players as I would have thought but have good youth and O'Neil is a good manager)
11. Bolton (have not lost too many players and have a very strong midfield)
12. Portsmouth (they keep buying and had a useful team last year)
13. Blackburn (will cause trouble with McCarthy and frightened an number of teams last year)
14. Middlesborough (Southgate will make them strong at the back but nothing special)
15. Fulham (will only go so far with Lawrie Sanchez- despite his university degree)
16. Birmingham (may survive, may not)
17. Sunderland (no doubt will battle but lack quality)
18. Wigan (nothing at all exciting. hope they go down)
19. Reading (without Sidwell will fail)
20. Derby (what goes up...)

I wouldn't be so optimistic about Newcastle, although Sam Allardyce i think will finally get control of the dressing room and the club as a whole but still very patchy team overall, but could see a good striker choice of Owen, Smith and Martins if any of them can actually stay fit (something Owen has failed to do again when had some hope) but our normal dodgy defense will mess things up. I would go for:

1. Chelsea
2. Man U
3. Liverpool
4. Arsenal
5. Spurs
6. Man City
7. Bolton
8. Newcastle
9. Middlesbrough
10. Everton
11. Villa
12. Portsmouth
13. Blackburn
14. Reading
15. Birmingham
16. West Ham
17. Fulham
18. Wigan
19. Derby
20. Sunderland (maybe more hope than prediction)

Those wishing to be part of a weekly prem predictions league please let me know by tomorrow night, as I will then add their names to a spreadsheet which will be sent out for your completion and returned by Friday night please. I will compile the data from the matches and send the results out on a Mon/Tues in the form of a league. I will send full instructions and an example of a completed entry. Please also indicate the team you support (prem or otherwise) and I will try to include one of that teams games in the weekly predicts to make up 20 games. e.g My team is Rochdale (though I don't know why!)

Fairlplay JC, i can't believe you think we'll win the league, even if I thought Everton or Man Utd were gonna win the league, i would never say so!

One point of interest, the other day Everton were 25/1 to be demoted where as Liverpool were 2500/1, i liked that!

by the way, i'll be in on this thing Jonny, my email address is ian.rice@nike.com

cheers ta thanks very much

Does this mean that you are self-deceptive, Ian?

Everton, for the record, and looking forward to it. Thanks for organising, Jonny.

ps on Starballz's entry for "Chelski" read "Cardiff".
