can you recommend a gazientep hotel?
hi all... i was hoping for a traveller's recommendation for a nice place in gaztp. I dont want to stay in one of those massive "tourist" hotels with discos and kebap restaurant
i was thinking... midrange (up to 50 dollars), nice cute clean and maybe a nice little breaky included in the am?
downtown or easily arrived at from the airport
can you help me out?
thanks

belkis han is closest to the price you want and it looks really cute but i've not stayed there

IMO anadolu evleri is gorgeous and worth every darn kurus!

from airport there is a THYshuttle into town (drops you off near Mado cafe/THYoffice) -- costs about 6ytl, takes about 30min
the Mado is on a main street downtown and within easy walking distance to all the main sites and hotels
i really heart that city-say hello from me!

Sure!!
don't miss the Anthropology Museum and the stunning mosaics from Zeugma (2ytl) or the Ethnography Museum (2tyl) for a glimpse at a beautifully restored stone house; the ring-road around the castle makes for a nice stroll and the hamam they are restoring there is pretty cool
Imam Cagdas (near the Anadolu Evleri) - the best baklava ever (and i'm not really a fan of the stuff) ask for the ozel kare type
i also picked up some antep biber, urfa biber and a bunch of salca for cheap in the markets
29 Ekim - nice sort of hidden place to have a lunchtime beer even during Ramazan; typical stone house and cozy courtyard setup; live music at night (usually turku i think)
enjoying iftar in an outdoor restaurant garden was a great highlight for me - pleasant live music and spicyspicy everything - including even the coban salad & the yaprak sarma! a huge spread for 18ytl/person and we couldn't touch half the stuff as our bellies ran out of room
i also loved wandering around the bazaar and in and out of all the hans, watching craftsmen do their thing (lots of copperware!) and just chatting with the folks there
i found the LP info much better than Rough Guide's, especially when it came to maps and nightlife info. there's a big student population so bars, cafes and live music aren't hard to find. don't know when you'll be there but while Urfa during Ramazan is stifling, Antep is quite open - many restaurants open, people eating at outdoor cafes, smoking on the street, etc.
even if you don't stay at Anadolu Evleri, the owner (Tim, an american/turk) or his men will gladly let you in for a peek around - one of the most beautiful places i've ever been!
best of all, once you get there from the airport, you don't need anything but your own two feet to get around the city.
have fun!!!

breakfast included, about 135ytl for a double, all en suite and he might upgrade to a suite if there aren't many guests/it's not a weekend (but all the rooms are gorgeous - i looked at them all!)
