I was browsing through lufthansa's website and found this. I don't know if it's the cheapest
though...

We use them to go back and forth - saves us quite a bit on Turkish Airlines flights.

If you are really set on paying the least amount possible, don;t care which airline you fly, how many connections, are flexible for which day, etc. Your best bet is to go on a "standby" fare on the day of travel. LH does have these on occasion via FRA and MUH and are not more than 350 Euros RT. The problem of course is that you have to literally go to the airport and see if you can get the fares that day. There are now 2-3 agencies located at the airport that specialize in last minute consolidated fares, one is named Viking Turizm. The others are all located in the first ticketing corner of the int'l terminal. I should note however that August is THE peak month and finding anything really cheap is a bit of a mission. In October you could easily get somethng booked and confirmed beforehand for under 500 Euros.

but get on it fast
i know that alot of the US flights are booked up solid already

for years now, i've used Backpackers Travel in Sultan Ahmet.
Last year when I was trying to book a flight back to the US for my daughter,
Tarik came up with the best deal. Service was excellent and I was able
to transfer the money directly to their account...all without leaving the comfort
of my village home!!

If you get in touch with them, tell Tarik that Arlene recommended them to you.

He has gone out of his way to help me, even with bus reservations.

go for it!

Gotta agree with AG re Backpackers. Tariq is great, and they even deliver my flight tickets to me for free!
