cheapest way to get to the Rhine!

 cheapest way to get to the Rhine! what is the cheapest way to go the Rhine?? there are great castles and great Rhine view ( and very cheap hostels) at Basel.Should I go through Switzerland or Germany maybe..

OR.... Try the Julian Alps (slovenia). Also very cool mountains - very quiet, not too touristy and a bit nearer!

Apart from the fact that this section is "about travelling to or from and within Turkey" and as far as I know the Rhine has no connection to Turkey: I can say that the castles are in Germany and not Switzerland and flying to Cologne (which is Germany) would be the best option as most of the castles are near Koblenz, South of Cologne. There are ships leaving from Cologne that offer Rhine (& Wine) tours.

If you do have a desire to go to Basel though Easyjet fly from Istanbul to Basel daily although yes most of your image of the Rhine is downriver.
