Any recommendations for this peninsular? I know a few people have visited, so we'd be interested as it looks like we may be there at the start of July.

It's a very small place, no large hotels or anything (thank god!) although there are plenty of small ones and pensions. As for stuff to do there are a few archaeological sites( e.g Knidos) to visit if you are into that kind of thing. The windsurfing and sailing is very good (easily hireable). There is a Greek island a few miles away which you can get on a boat to although it's not cheap.

The fishing is good aswell. http://www.datcainfo.com/welcome.html

Post Datça & surrounding area
Inspiration has struck my parents and they've decided that they'd like to have a mooch around for a couple of days instead of dossing around Bodrum as usual and lucky me has got a couple of days off to accompany them. Their poolside friends have suggested Selimiye which is apparently near Datça / Olu Deniz. So far so good.
Has anyone been there? If so, do we ferry it from Bodrum to Datça and rent a car? (My Mum doesn't 'do' public transport and to be honest, neither do I if I can help it plus it's extra sunworshipping time) Are there any ruins or harbours for my step dad to wander around while I sleep on the beach? Is there a sandy beach (Mum not good on pebbles) Is the food any good? Any hotel recommendations? The only thing we all agree on is that we'd like to go somewhere not more than a 3 hour drive away that we've never been to before (got away lightly there ch  ) that has the minimum bucket & spaders / children.
Any advice appreciated.

Selimiye is nearer to Marmaris than Datca but don't let that put you off. It's a lovely place which gets a lot of day trippers to kiz kumru (do a google). I doubt if it'll be so busy now. Actually this is nearer Chelsea boys neck of the woods (although he may be sulking due to their recent football debacle). It's about an hours drive from Datca or 15 mins from goatland.

He can also give you details of car hire companies nearer to there. No problem hiring in Datca though.

Selimiye, Bozburun Sogut, Orhaniye and Hisaronu are all beautiful. If you are coming from Bodrum, then hire a car there and get the ferry to Datca. From Datca to hisaronu is 45 mins and then a lazy drive over the beautiful peninsula to Turunc. Plenty of pensions etc on the way, don't forget to buy some honey.
CH... enjoying the UK? Bit like me and the footie at the moment!

just got back from 2 lazy weeks in Datca. Hired a car from Eskol rent a car which is next door to [s]strapon[/s] strabon internet cafe just off the main street.
I hired a car for 10 days and cost me 50 ytl per day but rate changes for the amount of time you take it out for starting from 80 ytl for one day.
You can call Halil on 0536 888 5023 and he is really helpful but he doesnt speak English.
Best thing with Datca....no bloody bucket and spaders.

Just got back. Did Bodrum to Datça by ferry (got the boss to lend me his car :D ) then headed off towards Orhaniye. As I'd woken up characteristcally late in the morning, I didn't have chance to get any petrol before boarding the ferry so I innocently planned to fill up on the other side around Hisarönü. Ladies and gentlemen, there is not a single petrol station between Datça and Marmaris. Not one. This potentially disasterous start to our journey was avoided with about 5 kms to spare after which which we headed back the way we came. Luckily the views were spectactular enough to distract my parents while I convinced them having the air con on was a sin with that much natural oxygen around
Orhaniye is beautiful but the beach/sea not great for swimming. The waterfall at Turgut would have been better without the 20 jeep loads of dossers that turned up at the same time as us with water pistols and exposed bum cracks. We stopped at Selimiye in Palmetto hotel that was a bit pricey but I couldn't be arsed to argue by then. Crashed on the jetty for a few z's before venturing out for the evening. Found a restaurant called Aurora which was outstandingly good. Morning brought more sunshine (the forecast was terrible) so we decided to hang around until they threw us out. Stopped at Hisarönü for lunch (average) before hitting the road back towards Bodrum. Stopped at Akyaka - Gököva for coffee on the way and wished we'd gone there earlier as, with it's spotless, sandy beach and beautiful surroundings, it was a truly fabulous resort.
So, back in Bodrum and glad we made the effort to have a look around. There's still an awful lot to see in that area and I'd love to do it again and see all the bits we missed out on. Highly recommended.

Just left a boat in the Marina there. Nice location but shit facilities and still looked half complete. Beach and pool looked good though.

Ha. We saw all those fuckers driving past us when we were on our way to the airport.

You must have been following us because we moored up at the Aurora fro the night. Crazy owners but great food. Definitley recommend.

Nope, the thought of running into you was just too much for me to take. We just headed for a few bays further down the peninsular lunching and over-nighting in some of the more remote ones. Took a midnight swim surrounded by bioluminesence. Outstanding.

Hello.. I'd like to spend some time .. maybe a week.. in Datça this summer. Any recommendations about places to stay..or weekly rental flats, near a clean, quiet beach? I hear the place is great for a quiet time by the beach. Thanks in advance for any information available. By the way, I know there is information on the net, but I don't trust the net as much as I do someone that either lives there..or has experienced Datça. Peace
