 Kyrenia (Girne)
Has anyone been to Kyrenia (Girne) in northern Cyprus. Thinking of going on holiday with Turkish girlfriend there (for visa run) but havent been to that area. What is it like in comparison to the south of the island, is it cheaper?

The north is cheaper by far. The Greek Cypriots cross the border to do all their shopping, especially for cigarettes which are even cheaper than Turkey. Also, you can't get direct flights, boats etc from Turkey to Greek Cyprus so basically the question is irrelevant. I normally stay at the Dome Hotel in Kyrenia which overlooks the sea and has quite an old fashion sort of ambiance, prices are middling (can't remember off hand now) but there are cheaper places for the budget conscious. Have fun and don't forget to stock up on the bacon when you are there.

good location for visa run..did twice with wife last year..if you are planning to go off season(before may), the prices are generally really reasonable...what was that village which was near to where we stayed last time? ceylan, emmat or simonb might remember... nice pub there...worth visiting..i dont have a clue about british beer but apperently they have a lot of different ones...

The place we stayed is called the hideaway club (has its own website) just outside of Girne. Its cheap out of season (around 20- 35GBP per night depending on what type of room you stay in) has a fab view and pool, run by a British couple. Forgotten the name of the pretty village we walked to but the pub with the verging alchoholic cockney landlady is a well worth a visit!
