They say it's to compensate for the extra cost of fuel etc. but if that's the case I don't understand how Ryan Air made record profits this year after introducing such a charge. Frankly it sucks.

Willie Walsh is a lying scumbag. I can go on ad nauseum about how BA's profitabilitynow comes wholly from charges and fees and how they have outright lied in trying to push this one through (one hint, there are no new H&S regulations coming in, they are basing this on a decade old H&S RECOMMENDATION - besides they will still transfer bags at 32kg). They are now a nickle and dime outfit.

So they are charging an extra fee so that they will not loose your luggage, right?
they're like the 12 year old at a car park that wants money for looking after your car.
