Yes, there's something called the "Internetweb", it's got lots of pr0n, which is great, but it's also got hotel reviews. You shouldn't expect much from EiT'ers, as most are too poor to camp in New York, let alone stay in a Hotel.

Several years ago we went to visit our son in the USA and as it was our first time we went on a package tour from Tr. We flew to New York and stayed in a Red Roof Inn. It was a reasonable hotel and I think they have branches all over the place, perhaps you could check them out. The tour was quite cheap so the hotel must have been cheap and it was fine. And what was good - our son a lad at uni - joined us and stayed in our room for free. We took advantage of the kids stay free offer! :) Good luck!

For funky, clean and inexpensive, the Chelsea Pines. Nothing too exciting, but clean and affordable the Union Square Inn.

Vincent, name your own price in the neighborhoods you mentioned using priceline.com.

As an informational site, check out biddingfortravel.com, then browse through hotels for New York. People post their winning priceline bids on this site, so you know how low you should bid on priceline.com.

Whenever I travel in the U.S. I use these 2 sites and I have never had an issue and never heard of people getting hotel rooms cheaper using any other method.

Vincent, i live and work in the area you mention. Send me an email at djaygardner@gmail.com before you book and I'll let you know if it's ok, or I can recommend some.

thanks everybody for your tips i will check all and will mail to you, Djgardner;
in fact it s my first time I go there, NY is like a dream for me ; i just have to stay 2 days in a hotel and after will be at friend s appartement at madison square, so the price is not the main issue if i say in myself it s the price for one week! but i want to make a good choice, it s why i prefer to have some feed back from people who already stayed there instead surfing on internet where it s always the same hotels that are proposed
thanks again!

I know what you mean- N Y was like a dream for us too! :D And we were quite nervous about it- hence the package. And I must say the city was all we ever dreamed of and more...... You'll have a great time! :)
