Post please advise - hand/cabin luggage to and from USA
Hello everyone ! I'm going to Boston in Oct to visit my son , what I need to know is has anyone travelled to the USA recently and if so what are you allowed to take with you into the cabin? I'm a girl who hates going anywhere without lip balm , antihistamine gel ( Please don't laugh! ) and drinking water !
Thank you . All the best and good luck to those of you who are involved in back-to-school stuff !

best if you check before you travel in october. security regulation after the heathrow incident have tigthened drastically, however, slight adjustments are being made as the practicality of the new security measures are being avalued on an ongoing basis.

you can check at any of the major us airlines websites for the current carry-on policies. some gels and liquids are allowed again, but only for essential items. water is still not allowed. solid stick lip balms are also allowed.

i flew via new york 2 weeks ago and at the time, everything considered a 'container' with anything 'liquid or gel' like substances was off limits. therefore, no lip balm, no perfumes, no water or other bottled product, no lip glosses, lipsticks, liquid foundation, yada yada yada.
however! you could buy dutyfree and very elaborate security would give it to you at the last possible moment before getting on the plane..... we might be worried about terror but not you know about making some cash for the airports.
i read on the bbc that they were thinking of relaxing the rules sometime soon.

Post tips
I checked Air France's website before I I flew from CDG Paris to San Francisco nonstop on Aug. 22nd to make sure I knew which items to check in. I am completely attached to my toiletry items for cleansing/hydrating/well-being in the air so I am not thrilled about this new security measure. But I had to adhere...my main concern was not being able to carry my toothpaste. I still needed to brush my teeth so I basically 'cheated' by applying the gel paste in my toothbrush and wrapping it my in plastic for later use. It passed.

As for the procedure: After the airport's own security check (where water and all liquid items had to be eliminated) , there was another check by Air France's hired security personnel just before getting into the airway. The hand luggage check was very thorough. My lip balm even though in solid form was in a tin container so it was confiscated. I suppose if it came in a tube, it would have been OK. I was so bummed! Lipsticks in a retractable tube in solif form were ok BTW.

What they didn't see (and what I wasn't even aware of that I had) was a small sealed packet of sample hand cream from L'Occitane in my purse. It was like a paper thin packet with a little product sample in it. That was such a lifesaver for me since I used it to hydrate my face and hands during the flight.

Also in the airport where your flight is departing from, the Duty Free personnel usually ask you for your destination and looks at your boarding pass. They then advice you of what you can and cannot take on the plane. At least in Paris, they were adept at this.

Finally, no liquid items were for sale in the Duty Free card on board on my particular flight.

You can still bring your laptop so you can watch a DVD or play games in flight. I watched 'V is for Vendetta" (twice) which was pretty grim but surprisingly good.
