Dubrovnik seems to be where it's happening in Croatia.

dubrovnik always WAS the place to be...
it was supposed to be one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world...
wonder if those places survived?
i see the ads on TV now for Croatia Tourism...
if anyone gets there, be sure to report back especially on prices.

 Croatia - travel
I lived in Rijeka for nearly a year a couple of years ago. People are great and the coastline wonderful.
Dubrovnik has been "mended"and the famous old city looks as it did before the war.
I used to travel to and from Croatia (to London that is, not Istanbul) using Ryanair's service to Trieste (in Italy.) You can get buses on down to Rijeka or Pula, and then on by ship or bus all down the coast.
Adria fly from Istanbul to Ljubljiana in Slovenia and you can get a bus to points in Croatia from there too. (But if you are going with any Turkish friends remember that they need visas to go through the EU.)
In the summer the coast can - in places - be a heaving mass of Germans and Austrians. Certainly the coast road is full of their cars, buses, boats, caravans - and the road is a nightmare even with nobody else on it.
There are lots of boats all up and down the Croatian coast and serving the islands, which is where you can get away from all the rush on the coast and unwind. The national shipping line is Jadrolinia which has crap service, ultra-miserable crew and some of the boats look like they were converted troop cariers from WW2. Catering is just abominable. I went on a return trip on them and on the way back took my own food as the muck they sold on board was so dreadful.
That aside if you want a holiday looking at beautiful clear waters; stunning coastlines and quaint seaside villages, then Croatia is for you. There is nothing much to DO there, the odd open air concert in a castle is worth visiting just for the setting. But take plenty to read...
