Who forced you to march all the way in the sun and heat? You can't have volunrteered to walk. You know there is a nice ferry going to Rumeli Karvagi?

You should have turned right at the corner, not left. Why oh why didn't you turn right? Turn right next time.

Here's a map on where the ferries go, they do not go to the beach though. The town on the Asian side is called Rumeli Kavagi (with the fortress ruins on top of the hill).

In Asia, Kanlica and Beykoz are also well worth seeing.

The town on the asian side is called 'Anadolu Kavagı'. Boats leave Eminonu at 10.35, 12.00 and 13.35. Return journey leaves Anadolu Kavagı at 15.00, 16.15 and 17.00 (17.00 departure leaves 18.00 on Saturdays). All this leaving you enough time for a beer or two, fish lunch and a walk up to the ruined fortress with awesome views of the Black sea.
By the way, boats stop at Beşiktaş 15 minutes after Eminonu if this is easier for you. Only downside is that in the summer, the boats are usually rammed when leaving Eminonu.

Can't you get to Rumeli Feneri and Anadolu Feneri (andPoyaz) ?
Google Maps seems to suggest you can ( I mean walking from the respective Kavag obviously).

You can go to Rumeli Feneri, but not along the coastal road, due to military, that's why mrmineo couldn't make his way through there. (One way to go there is to go up the hill from Sariyer (towards Kilyos) and then make a right towards Koc University and then there's R.F. at the end of the road.) Walking all that way would be only something for marathoners though I guess. ;-)

In 2000 when I first set foot in Istanbul, I went to Rumeli Kavagi. I took the ferry from Besiktas. It was a nice, breezy boat ride. My fellow tourist friend and I had lunch there and then hiked up to the castle ruins. Oh it was hot!

I wonder how much it costs if you board at Beşiktaş?
[/quote]
Costs 1.3 lira unless you use an akbil.

Starman,
I think you'll find that this boat trip is more expensive.
