Does anyone know if it is easy to get into Xanthi in Greece by public transport, starting from Istanbul?

I will be based in Istanbul from June on, while in July there's a concert I wish to attend in Xanthi on 20th July. The band is Orphaned Land, they're touring again now but unfortunately they don't visit Turkey during this tour, Xanthi is the closest possible.

Is it easy to get to by bus or train?

Haven't been to mainland Greece but was looking at the options for my next visa trip. Looks like the train doesn't stop there, but there are definitely buses. I was looking at Varan to go to a few other places and they stop at Xanthi. Here's the link to their prices and dates. They don't go very often.

I'm sure there are other companies too but not many of the bus companies have websites and it they do, there is very little information on them, particularly for the international routes.

Good luck.

You can take a train (no 445) directly from Istanbul to Thessaloniki that stops at Xanthi station. If I copy and paste the page link, it doesn't work. So, log onto http://www.ose.gr/ecPage.asp?page=liststath.asp&lang=2
Click on 'Timetables'; 'Rail Stations'; 'X'; 'Xanthi'

Alternatively, you can take a bus from Istanbul to Alexandroupolis and then take one of a2 other trains from there to Xanthi.

Unfortunately, the KTEL website (Greek domestic buses) is down. But you can check back there closer to the time.

Thanks, that is superb! :)

Any idea of the prices, as the site does not seem to mention the price with the timetables?
