Post Turkish barbers get a shout out!
This weekend's FT had a nice little article on (male) shaving with a big 'yes' to Turkish barbers, comparing the soulless chore of self-multilation with a Bic razor against the ''salutary, companionable and enjoyable performance'' you get in certain cultures.

''Everything is done with pride and a virtuoso flourish.....hedonistic shaving...''

The author recommends Kalimche Barber and Professional Massage Saloon in Göcek...and Green Lanes in London!

''I can't imagine a better way of promoting both democracy and quality of life than engineering a return to the traditional barbers.'' :D Funny.

The 'barber experience' is truly wonderful!!

Just sitting there for 15/20 minutes getting pampered and receiving a damn good shave is very relaxing. Making small talk with the barbers and other customers, drinking tea and smoking are all part of the experience. Any barber will do. I often walk in to random barbers and the scenario is exactly the same.

Its actually one of the best parts of my week and one of the reasons Turkish life is so agreeable for me. Also saves me mutilating my face (I have only shaved myself about twice in the last two years!!)

Big up to the 'berbers' =D{
