So, we're off to Kalkan in July, any good tips on where to eat & drink, and other good things to do???? Also, anything special we should see with the kids??

Saklikent (spelling not too sure of) gorge Ptarra beach There's not that much within Kalkan but the kids should love the 2 I've written about, Kekova was also fun if you take a boat out and spend the day swimming and going into different coves. The ideaa is to see the sunken city but it is a bit of a let down to be frank.

Saklikent is gorgeous! I love Kekova as well & I'm not sure how old your kids are but you can climb up to the fortress. About 10 minutes outside of Kalkan on the way to Kaş is a gorgeous beach called Kaputaş. You have to walk down many steps to get there but it is well worth it. Xanthos & Letoon are UNESCO World Heritage sights (Lycian ruins). In Demre/Myra they can go to St. Nicholas' church (maybe the original Santa Claus - though you might not want to scare them with the talk of his bones being stolen) and climb around in the rock tombs. I swear they still smell like death! Another thing fun for the kiddies & a great way to cool off is to head up to the mountains (I can't remember the village's name but it is directly up from Kalkan) and head to a trout restaurant where they'll let the kids net their own trout to eat (but maybe that could be traumatizing for them?) For restaurants I recommend Aubergine. Belgin's will be fun for the kids as you eat on the floor. Have fun!

We went to Kalkan last year for our summer break, I love it there had a great holiday. used to have tons of mates there when I lived on the coast. Where are you staying? We rented an apartment which had fantastic views. For food I you must try Daphnes, Its the sister restaurant to the Aubergine, the menu is the same but the chef is better and the veiw is great..Tell Attila (the head waiter) that Beki from Gocek sent you. Also the ottoman house restaurant is fantastic..again tell Ayhan the owner I sent you... We had a great time at the new beach club...cant remember the name but its the free one..the boats leave from the harbour and take you over. I was really impressed with it, the food and drinks are well priced and good (many of the other beach clubs are a bit on the expensive side) Any questions pm me, I have been to Kalkan at least a dozen times and know it pretty well.. Enjoy

Fantastic - thanks to y'all for the helpful hints. We have rented a villa in Kalkan, great water views - a bit of an extravagance on our part, but we needed lots of space with plenty of room for visitors coming from Sweden Germany & Australia. I'll post a review for the place after we have tested it out .Sounds from your posts that kalkan will deliver all that it promises! Only hope that it's not too hot........ Temp will be warm but not to the extent it will be a month later, we did this one year and visited Olympos (just down the road) in August. Can highly recommend visiting Kalkan and the region in early October i.e. the off season, the temp is just right and the quantity of tourists diminishes to the point of nothing. We paid (2003) 40 TL for an apartment in a hotel which also included breakfast and an evening meal.

Also try the para gliding... (depending on how much your kids are annoying you at the time!) Many safari/jeep trips to see the local historical and areas of natural beauty.... Went in May this year...temp was early 30's then.....take yer sun slap!!!

Saklikent is amazing.... I went last year and it was so fun! Great way to beat the heat, too. For food, I am biased as my friends run a fabulous teras restaurant in the center of Kalkan called "COAST." They have great food and last year I spent many a night on the rooftop, drinking wine and eating sauteed mushrooms. If you go, please tell them I (Camille) sent you and that I say "hello!" Kalkan has a really hard, rocky beach-- so either be willing to shell out some liras for chairs or bring something to put under your towels. There was also a really nice private beach nearby-- had to pay to get in, but it was a nice change from the rocks. And of course, Patara is gorgeous, but the waves are much bigger there than in Kalkan. Damn. Wish I was going back!! Have fun.
