I like this piece on it in The Times today which is exactly right i think in sentiment http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/ ... 784983.ece , if unfortunately a glaring mistake in geography on the location of Sarajevo. I particularly like the quote on Kenan Doglu " And was there not fun to be had watching Kenan Dogulu who, despite the evidence of his own mirror, hip-wiggled and cavorted under the misapprehension that he was Turkey’s answer to Ricky Martin? (If he was the answer, the Turks misheard the question.)"

It's an incredibly sardonic, yet typically jaundiced, piece by a third rate staff writer. No wonder British detractors of the competition (which is akin to denouncing stale bread, by the way: it is what it is - move on) regurgitate the same lazy spiel year in, year out, falsely assuming that their ironic detachment makes them better than the people who take it seriously. It doesn't.

And, God, I never thought I'd ever see the day when I had to defend Kenan Dogulu, but no one argued, not even in a tongue-in-cheek way, that Dogulu was Turkey's answer to Ricky Martin. The writer is the only one who makes such an anachronistic association, thus betraying his own lack of command of the zeitgeist of pop music.

''The Eurovision Song Contest is the gay world’s FA Cup'' - obviously why Monkey-magic was desperate to watch it.

Kenan Doglu no where near Ricky Martin at all.

Post 2 questions about Eurovision
Are there really any people who who take Eurovision seriously ? (Had row with sister-in law about this... how stupid can one be??????? obviously the meaning of kitsch, cheesy, tongue in the cheek etc. lost on her and millions of others)

Aren't the competitors supposed to be unknowns or amateurs? ( so what are well known 'successful' singers like Turkey's own K.D doing on there? is it not cheating??????????)

I think there should be an agreement as to whether the point of Eurovision is to have the WORST singers in any country compete.....I think that was what most countries had in mind...(seriously, what was going on with the aircrew from UK?? did anyone see that?) And this is why we lost.....(because we were too good?) :)
