Post Risqué for Turkey?
This new TV ad breaks next week on Turkish TV.

Would be interested on your thoughts, what reaction do you think this will get in Turkey?

Nearly got banned by the TV channels nervous of backlash from RTUK. But they allowed it in the end, and not just after the watershed.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, its not that 'shocking' is it? But one comment I received so far was "NO!!!!!! You cannot broadcast this, this is BAD!!!!!!!"

From Tuesday you can see it on...ATV, KanalD, Show TV, Number one, Kral TV, Dream TV.

You can see it on Youtube now.

Really I'm surprised you say that, coming from a country that cannot produce decent ads, 99% of ads in Turkey are shit!

You're not really that Turkish - and you are over-liberated Rauf.
When this goes out in middle of a Turkisg Soap opera in Prime Time, you dont think it'll cause a stir within certain segmnets of society?

I think you are right Mr G, that will kick up a stink and it won't be the smell of coffee. That said it's a jolly nice arse but I don't think it'll draw me away from my Douwe Egberts.

i dont agree with that. i think some turkish ads are excellent. Many I still remember from y e a r s ago, which is the point of advertising. i would hazard to say that the majority of turkish ads beat the crap out of american ads.

You're too old mate.

It's targeting the younger 3in1 drinking consumer, and as Douwe Egberts don't do 3in1, it's not a competitor.

Ch, I had a conversation with the client two minutes ago asking if we should edit the 'tongue' out. But that's the best bit for me, so we're keeping it in. It's the rudest part, but that's the point. If it gets too many complaints it may have to be edited out, but I want the ad talked about and that will help.
What do you think?

As we both know any publicity is good publicity (if you are in that kind of business of course) it may cause a bit of contraversy, so what. I'm sure that you wouldn't mind the advert and the product being discussed on the national news.

No, every ad produced in this country is shit.
Just like any other advert that's been produced in any other country in the world is shit.

Oh fcuk off.
My thinking has absolutely nothing to do with my nationality.

Most Turks in Holland are more conservative than that **** that killed Dink, I just happen not to have the urge to kill people, well, I do sometimes, but I don't do anything with it.

Also, I may have a liberal view but that does not take away the fact that this advert is shit.
And I'm willing to bet that this ad will not get canned.
(yes, I have a thing for betting, lately.)

agree with marc that most ad's in turkey are crap, that being said, a lot of ad's in n. america are crap too...juist with a bigger budget and that's where the two separate themselves.

that and that being said, this commercial does appear to have more budget/bigger production value/better crew etc than most turkish commercials and it's way more polished, but for my tastes , the acting is over the top and borderline cheesy.

but hey, if it targets the audience and gets them talking, and gets that name out there, then the ad has served well.

Post Critism is easy, advertisement is difficult but still...
Canim Gilly,

I watched the add twice. Here are my comments:

I remember the girl said, Mc Coffee... (is that right?)
I remember the package is big and doesnt look like a three in one.
I remember it saying the coffee is strong (How can 3 in one be strong? It is not black, it is not expresso etc- in Turkey, we do perceive the coffee to be weak when it has milk in it.)
The people in the ad arent young at all and they all look like alcoholic loosers, so how are the youth going to associate themselves with these geezers?

On a more ethical level and advertisement point of view, as much as I can remember my classes (so please pardon me if I do say something quite out of fashion now):
I am totally against the usage of female body with every bloody product. How easy! Just show some nice ass and tits to go with anything and think it is gonna sell a lot. I dont think that is the case. As ch said, it will be material for the news, mags etc but it is not a gem of advertisement and there ARE many better ads done in Turkey, I dont know of the current ones but we had so many good ad films that took awards, and we can look into the red books together with you sometime. I really do love talking about advertisement. I do.

ps. I love the "bi biskrem versem" ads, just remembered...
there is also this tea biscuits, where everybody was being dragged with their chairs to the tea
I also like the advertisement where everybody was trying to find excuses to go back home to watch footy.(during the cup it was, wasnt it?) Remember how stupid they were trying to get small accidents at the office! Thought it was hilarious!

Anyway... Thanks for sharing with us and good luck. Sometimes, with some products it is just difficult. Especially if a lot has been done.

One last thing: I hate the caramel flavoured 3 in 1 adds (was that nestle?) I just start to tremble with disgust when I hear him say: this is with caramel, this is with chocolate, this one is with nuts... Grrrr.. Does remind me immediately of the couple sitting together. Would have never tried that coffee, if it wasnt for the previous adds featured a train station and a guy with full of nuts on his lap. Remember? They also target your audience.
